Your office mate had a Desert Eagle? That thing is monstrous. It's so freakin' loud and scary. They had it at the range and the gun pros said there really isn't a military use for the Desert Eagle. Just some big gun for die hards to own. The recoil on that thing will take your hand off if you aren't gripping and leaning forward.
He took me to the shooting range and let me try out his various guns. I shot the Eagle and almost dropped the damn thing. We had to shoot off 400 rounds because he was moving to a different state.
